  1. nop

  2. If he has ratings on both planes then a b777 pilot can absolutely run shift with an a330 pilot. And yes the airlines will allow it as long as he is in fact certified to fly both jets.

  3. Though it is feasible, it is unlikely and airline will allow them.

It is more likely that pilots will be cross-qualified on similar aircraft which usually means different types from the same manufacturer e.g. B747 and B777 and Airbus A330 and A340.

The main selling point of Airbus for pilot/technical crew management is the commonality across all types which is simply not matched by Boeing even with types released at about the same time.

Cabin crew are different - they can be qualified on up to 3 different types.  Airlines use of this varies, BA used to have 3 "fleets" - short, mid and long haul.  Mid-fleet were qualified on B737, B767 and B747 and therefore did a mixture of long and short haul flights.

  4. While it is technically possible, most pilots will stay in a single aircraft type.  From the cost of training and keeping the crews current it is not practical to have crews float between both aircraft, especially ones as different a the Boeing and Airbus.
