If your child does not have a birth certificate (you didn't register the birth) then would the child be able to go abroad? even if the child is under a year old?

  1. My husband works for an airline and you should be fine unless you are leaving the country.  Usually the only time an airline needs a birth certificate is if the baby is over the age of 2 and can no longer be a lap child.

  2. In Canada no one leaves the airport without proper ID. When I flew with my daughter at ten weeks, they checked her ID (birth cert.) several times. If you are flying out of the country you will need a passport as well.

    *edit

Here ALL babies need a passport to leave Canada even if they are only a week old.

  3. Yes you need a birth certificate.  Though in certain circumstances depending on where you live if the registration is taking forever or the birth certificate then you can get a permit from the government to travel in lieu of a birth certificate.

  4. you didn't register the birth?well you are in trouble there then, that is a legal requirement

  5. how olds your baby? you only get a certain amount of time to register a baby then you get in trouble with the police

  6. Depends on what country you're from. In the UK (and 99% of the countries in Europe) no one, regardless of age can travel without a passport and you can not get a passport without a birth certificate. It is also against the law here to not register the birth and you only have 6 weeks to do it within. Also, most major airlines will not allow an infant to travel internationally under the age of 13 weeks.

  7. nope. babies under 3 months can travel abroad without a passport, but they still need a birth cert. After that they need a passport. But why would you not have a birth cert?

  8. Your baby will need a passport to go to another country.  However, it is possible, though difficult, to get a passport without a birth certificate.

By the way, having a social security number is not at all required to get a passport.

    From http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/fir...

"If you do NOT have a previous U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate, you will need:

    Letter of No Record

Issued by the State with your name, date of birth, which years were searched for a birth record and that there is no birth certificate on file for you.

AND as many of the following as possible:

    Baptismal certificate

    Hospital birth certificate

    Census record

    Early school record

    Family bible record

    Doctor's record of post-natal care"
