Can a bad whining power steering pump (that needs 2 be replaced) actually burn the P/S fluid itself?

I can smell the P/S fluid burning when I drive but I dont see any leakage under the car. My P/s Pump is whining and needs 2 replaced anyways.99 taurus

yes you can burn your p/s fluid replace your pump before it is to late

better check your transmission fluid . when it smells that that strong  does not sound like pump especially if its not leaking  ..pull the dip stick out of trans and smell it to see if it smells burnt.

Probably a very small weep of p/s oil leaking onto a hot component. P/S and Auto use the same type of oil, so it may be either if you are going by smell.

Question- can the p/s pump "burn oil"
