Well, I've already asked multiple questions reguarding the enviornment of my fish, but here, hopefully, is the last one...I went to walmart and saw the perfect 2.5 gallon tank within my budget, and it's sleek design stole my heart. Now, i once read that for every gallon your tank can hold, that's the amount of fish (in inches) you can contain within its walls (or something along those lines). So...I was wondering if I could keep the 1.5 inch beta, with a .5 inch blue mystery snail (which i already have), and also buy a african dwarf frog that grows around to be 1 - 1.5 inches. I ask this question because if the frog grows to be 1.5 inches or more, the inch in fish to gallon ratio is disrupted. Can i have the frog in my tank; and if not, what else (if anything), can i place in my 2.5 gallon tank?

  1. if you get only the betta you don't need the snail

  2. Honestly only your betta can live in there with the snail. Don't add anything else. Almost all fish need a 5 gallon aquarium but bettas will do very well in a tank of 2.5 gallons all to themselves. Might want to be sure to buy algae discs though for your snail to eat or he may run out of food with just the betta!

  3. Well, mystery snails only get eh size of golfballs, not softballs. The common apple snail gets the size of a softball. AAlso, the one inch per gallon rule is bs, does not help anyone but begginers, it only helps beginners NOT overstock there tank! You can have a betta, snail, and 2 african dwarf frogs in there! African dwarf frogs are very social so it is best to have at least 2. If you have any questions on the animals I talked about, feel free to e-mail me at bettalover101@yahoo.com

  4. that would be fine i used to have mine in a 2.5 litter tank and he was perfectly fine if you would like to see pics of mine go to my website-

it has some pics on there of the tank and my other tank we are still working on it and you can check out a lot of stuff.

  5. just a betta

most mystery snails grow the size of a soft ball

2.5 gallons is the minimum size for ONE betta

a 6 gallon might be ok

the one inch per gallon rule only applies to small schoolers realy tetras, danios, rasboras and corydoras

  6. betas can live in even the smallest tanks...a 2.5 gallon would be great for it.
