Can a betta really live with other fish?

I read online that you can put one male betta with other fish if its in a good size tank, and the other fish dont have long fins. I have a 25 gallon tank with american fliagfish, tetras, zebra danios, platys, and cory cats. Would it be safe to put my male betta in there?

  1. Yup, Beta fish can really live with other fish. I've got mine with Tetras,Danios,Corydoras,Plecos, and Barbs. The Barbs tend to be a bit nippy at times. But, after a while they'll stop. It's safe for your Betta to be with the other fish. =]

  2. yes they can just dont put 2 bettas in the same fish tank

  3. a betta fish cannot live with other fish if its a male they can kill each other. I'm not so sure about the females but i no for sure that you cant have 2 male betta fish unless u wanna keep buying more i no this because i  had betta fish once then we switched to gold fish

  4. Bettas only attack other bettas and things that look like them, the only concern is the tetras might nip the betta's fins.  Other than that it should be ok, I have a 10gal tank with a betta, two glass catfish, a sword tail and two flying foxes and nobody has ever annoyed anybody else... the betta occasionally tries to show the sword tail who's boss but sword tails swim much faster than bettas and there's a lot of plantlife in the tank so he gave up trying after about a day.

  5. Make sure which ever fish you match with your betta are not the same colors. Male Betta's are not only aggressive towards other male Betta's. If they see a fish of similar color to themselves, they will act aggressively towards them.

Also, fast moving fish can stress your betta out. Personally, i recommend bottom dwelling fish since your betta will spend most of its time towards the surface. This way your betta runs the top of the tank stress free and your other fish hangout at the bottom. Cory Cats, Plecos and Loaches are my top pics. Make sure the plecos you get won't grow to big though :)

  6. You should be able to add your betta to the community, just be sure to add some plants in if you don't already have them to provide cover for either your betta or the other fish. There will be occasional squabbles, and be careful of the tetras nipping the bettas fins, but other than that, you should be ok.
