  1. To place as much information onto a DVD disk as Blue Ray is capable of storing requires a reduction in the size of the information bits. Up until this point, red lasers where used to read normal DVDs and CDs. The wavelength of red lasers are too long to be focused and read the smaller bit size of Blue Ray disks. For this reason, Blue Ray disks require the use of a blue laser because its wavelength is so much shorter and they can be focused small enough to read the smaller bits. The use of blue lasers is the source of the name: "Blue Ray". Because of the need for blue lasers, a standard computer drive (with its red laser) is incapable of reading a Blue Ray disk  and can NOT copy it to a standard DVD format.


  2. A Blu Ray disc will take up about 4 DVD-RS.
