  1. No it is only a player, you would need a DVR to record any type of programming but to record from a DVD is all together a different step with programs and you would also have to deal with the copyright protections.


  2. Blu-ray player can only play blu-ray discs. Blu-ray player CANNOT record DVD programming.

    The early version of blu-ray players could not even play normal DVD. I am not sure about today's blu-ray players though.

    If you want to record dvd programming, you need a recorder.

    I do believe that if you have a pc + blu-ray recorder, then you can record DVD materials; watch out the copyright protection on those material though.
