  1. No, they're independent of each other.

    If you do any projectile motion problems, you will find out how gravity has no effect on the projectile's horizontal motion.


  2. YES, it can.

    When you throw a baseball in a parabolic arc, at the height of the arc there is no vertical velocity component, meaning at that instant it is moving horizontally.  However, it is also being accelerated downward at rate g at this instant in time.

    This case only applies for an infinitesimal unit of time.

  3. Acceleration means a change in motion.

    A body at rest or moving in  straight line has no acceleration.

    A body that moves horizontally has no motion in the vertical direction, so no acceleration in the vertical  direction either.
