Can a canna flower stay in a small container?

Question

i bought a canna flower from the nursery and i was wondering if i can leave it in its container i bought it is rather then planting it in the ground,, cause i know i have to bring it in for the winter....would the container be too small? how much sunlight does the flower need???

i see about 3 stems coming up so is that enough room in the container .....i think its a 2L container im not sure.......its not that big....

please help!!!!!!!

canna flower thrives well in the ground. planting in a small container may restrict their growth. you can dig up the buld of the plant and keep it through the winter.

i have seen them in containers but those were whiskey barrels, all i can say is try it and if it starts to look iffy put in in the ground...  i can't see why it wouldn't be ok, as long as next year you put it in the ground or a new container next year potting soil is really only very good for a year...

i can promise it will do better in the ground either way

if you keep it in a small container it wont make any new plants or only a few new plants. this will keep it from flowering its best.

what you could do is put itin the ground and when the first freeze comes and your plant is gray you cut it. then after cutting all the gray leaves off leaving a few stems coming out of  the ground about 3 inches high, you dig it up. the plant has a bulb. you can store these bulbs in a cool room where temps are no higher than 50 and no lower than 32.

if you really dont want to put it in the grond you can keep it in the same container, but it wont be as great

my grandmother used to grow these. We live in an area that freezes in the winter. In the falll when they died back, she would dig up the bulbs and bring them inside for the winter. Then in the spring, she would re-plant the bulbs, and they did very well with this routine.
