I want to make an alternator wind mill to charge a battery but will a deep cycle marine starting battery charge properly with a standard car alternator? I am using the battery on an electric moped and wanted to charge the battery without having to cost my parents alot on the electric bill.

  1. If you are using the regulator that comes with the alternator, I think it will be ok, as long as the marine battery is about the same rating as the car battery was.

I'd keep an eye on it until I was sure it was OK.

  2. They're not much different than the alternator on the outboard or inboard motor, so yes, it'll work.

But the cost of running a regular deep cycle battery charger is really not that expensive, so the alternative is not worth the cost of manufacture or effort.
