I have a '92 Mazda 929, and it has sat for about 3 years. About 2 years ago I got another motor put in it and last year I got a new transmission put in. But it is still sitting because it has a real bad oil leak(my front seals need to be replaced on my engine). I know it's an old car(16 years old), but I love my car. If I were to get it fixed one last time do you think, it'll be a reliable car even though it has sat for three years? Do you think it's worth it to get it fixed?

  1. it can be repaired for sure and it will be a reliable car if the service is done correctly... just be careful as it might cost a reasonable amount of cash...

  2. Depending on the condition of your car, the miles on the engine and the transmission and how it drives overall.  I would suggest going to www.kbb.com to find out how much your car is worth selling to a private party.  Then, call around garages and get a quote of how much they would charge to fix the leaky seal.

If the cost of repairing the vehicle outweighs half the price of it, then I would search around for a new car.

  3. My daily driver is a '87 Toyota PU, so there's no reason you couldn't trust your Mazda to get you around.  Fix that leaky seal and keep on top of the maintenance and you should be okay.  For the first couple of weeks keep your eyes and ears open for developing issues that might be related to the extended vacation it's had, but once you get it running you should be fine.

  4. I don't think it's the sitting for 3 years that you have to worry about, rather it's the fact that it's a Mazda 929. Those cars are horrible.
