Can a car with 2.0ltr engine pull a 22ft boat on a four wheel trailer?

If you need to buy a boat and it's 100 miles away so you want to collect by road, and they have a four wheel trailer for it is this legal and can it be pulled bya 2.0ltr car engine Alfa Romeo

If the boat weighs more than 600-700 pounds I wouldn't do it. Rent or borrow a truck for the job.

you need to find the nose weight of the trailer and the cars weight towing capacity

as for the engine size 2 ltr will pull the boat on  hills you will have to gear down and use revs but what it all comes down to is breaking and weight if the trailer is to heavy it can push the car also a question you need to ask is the trailer braked and whatever you use to tow it back make sure all the trailers lights are fully working or use a trailer board it may be worth taking a spare tyre as well 100 miles is a fair drag

Yes my brother used to pull a 25 foot powerboat behind a 2 litre ford sierra....although it did struggle through some of the roads back from the lake district!

Just take it easy and remember how much weight you have behind you and you should be ok.

Go ahead and do it, if you want to trash your 2ltr car.  Stop being cheap and go rent a truck for a day.

i have never tried with a small car, but i would be very nervous. just remember you also have to stop, if you try this make sure you have propperly working brakes on the trailer and allow extra room to stop

Not a problem. We have often pulled a 23' yacht that must have weighed tonnes behind a Mercedes with 2.0 litre engine on a 4 wheel trailer. Don't forget that the trailer has it's own brakes. The legal limit for towing is 85% of the kerb weight of the car, so look in the handbook and find out the kerb weight of your car is.

One of the few things Americans do well is towing vehicles and specifications. A boat like that, on a trailer, is going to weigh around two tons. The highest towing capacity of any Alfa Romeo is 1.5 tons for the Alfa 166. The model is more important than the engine capacity because the brakes, steering and suspension need to be able to handle the loads safely.

The minimum you need is something like a Jeep Cherokee or a Landrover, depending what country you are in.
