I'm an 18 year old caucasian, and for my college musical theatre program, I was considering singing a song from Miss Saigon, one of Kim's songs. Would that be appropriate, even though the part is written for an asian girl?

  1. yes. if you're were auditioning for a particular part, i wouldn't suggest it. but if you are simply auditioning for the program you want to show them what you can do, and if you feel like one of those songs can do, then sing it girl!

  2. ...No, obviously it is not acceptable to sing a part sung by an asian character. That would be like singing 'I Dreamed a Dream' from Les Mis and not being a French prostitute dying of consumption, or singing 'Defying Gravity' when you AREN'T GREEN.

No, but srsly, it's an audition, presumably for a show that isn't Miss Saigon. And it's not like the song's written in Vietnamese. COMMON SENSE, LEARN YOU SOME.
