Question:

Can a chain saw cut dried wood?

We bought a house that has two trees down and they are very dried. I asked the previous owners when they had been cut, and they said a year or so ago.

These trees are about 24" diameter.

Could I use a chain saw to cut them down into pieces that I can split for firewood?

  1. Yes it will. I recommend you make sure the chain is good and sharp.I burn firewood to heat my home with and I will fall trees in the fall of one year and cut to blocks for burning the next. This alows for drying and makes the blocks lighter for handleing.

  2. Thar jes aint much a chainsaw won't cut my little chickadee!!

  3. Will be a little harder but a chain saw will cut it.  Keep the wood off the ground and with a cover on top.  The good firewood you make will pay to sharpen the chain, etc.

  4. absolutely-beats a hand saw any day

  5. You can cut seasoned wood well enough with a chainsaw.

Be very careful though. - Pre-plan & manage

the job closely.  A 24" trunk is a very heavy object,

and at some point in your cutting it up, you know it's

going to shift.  Don't be there when it does.

  6. yes .  but some timber becomes hard when aged like rock. so be be careful

  7. Saw will cut it ok,but probably slower than if green.

  8. Dry wood will dull the chain faster, but a chainsaw has no problem cutting dry wood.

  9. yes
