Can a cheap lens ruin a camera? camcorder, video camera ect.?

i was going to buy a cheap wide angel lens off ebay but i have herd people say that a cheap lens can ruin the camera for ever.. is that true?

  1. Ruin your camera? No. Ruin the quality of your image? Perhaps. Your lens is the most important and most expensive thing in your camera. Even more important than the camera itself. Cheap lenses are made of plastic. Better ones are made of glass. The better the lens, the sharper the image. Of course, the camera itself can make a difference in quality too, but deciding to put a cheap lens on a nice camera will result in a lower quality picture than what the camcorder could probably do on it's own.  

    Of course, I don't know any of the specifics like the model of the camcorder or the brand of lens so i'm making a lot of assumptions here.  

    Anywho, if you aren't ready to purchase a more expensive lens and you just want to see if it's something you might actually use, i'd say, go for it! It's not going to harm a thing!
