Question:

Can a chevy 350 with a carburetor be switched to fuel injection?

I purchased a 4 wheel drive vehicle and it has a 350 with a carburetor in it. I want to use this year round and don't want to have to s***w with the carburetor for winter. I am very dumb with mechanics on cars. Is there a good way to switch it to a fuel injected system, or is it not possible? Expensive? Thanks!

  1. it can be done . but it can be exspensive to . look for a throttle body injection it like a cabrerator but injected into it that the cheapest way i can think of. they started using tbi in 1988chevys.

  2. Of course, if you get the computer and all sensors that go with the fuel injection set-up.  (Junk yards will save you a bunch of $$$$$)

  3. its possible but you have to change the whole intake manifold, put in fuel rails, need a computer for it.

  4. Holley ProJection. Look online for it @ Summit Racing, or Google search it. It's the simple way to get this done.

  5. If you don't know much about it, you'd be better off not doing anything to it, you shouldn't have to do any adjusting to your carb for Winter, I never have and don't have any problems

  6. Yes.  I believe there are conversion kits.  Look for in on Google.  Without a kit, it would be impossible.

    Good Luck...

  7. you say you are "very dumb with cars" so you better hsve a ton of jing cuz you aren't gonna be able to convert that yourself.  But it can be done with different intake manifld (with injectors) and getting a throttle-body, mass airflow sensor, and a new computer module.  You will also need to incorporate o2 sensor in the exhaust.  Takes brains to swap this and make work.  It is also very expensive and will take alot of work.

Save yourself the headache, and learn more about your carb!

  8. yes it is expensive, the computer, wiring harness, and all the componants will run you a hefty sum, as well as the mechanic to install it and then wire it in properly to your truck's electrical system, best bet is buy a book on your truck and learn about your carb and the settings. Once the carb is adjusted properly the trick is maintenance and filter replacement intervals, I have gotten 135,000 miles out of my carborated engine with no major trouble due to proper upkeep and maintenance.  read the owners manual and follow what it says you will get many years of trouble free driving

  9. A TBI (Throttle Body Injection) unit can be installed from an 88-95 GM truck/suv fairly easily. Just junkyard the parts.

You can purchase a TBI kit from many different companies that include NEW parts for your swap, but you end up with pretty much the same thing as if you would have junkyarded the set.

FI kits can be found at Summit Racing, Jegs, ect

You can get a MPFI (multiport fuel injection) kit from many places. You will get more power than the TBI units, but they cost more.

You could swap the first generation Vortec SFI (sequential fuel injection) from a '96-99 GM truck/suv. It will most likely be cheaper to junkyard than purchase the MPFI, but the MPFI will be easier to complete and fire the motor. To run the Vortec, you will also need the heads, since they are different than the older style.

  10. you can actually buy a throttle body fuel injection kit for your old chevy but it will cost you upwards of 1k
