My 3 year old chewed the card, and now the camera wants to format the card. My computer doesn't even see the card!! Is it possible to save the pictures? This is a 1GB SD card. I know to download them to the disk, but it was as I was setting up that he got the card!! Please help us with any suggestions.

  1. The data on the SD card is stored inside the flash (mostly NAND) chip inside the card. So theoretically speaking, if the NAND is not destroyed, then you should be able to recover it.

However, costs can vary depending on how bad the situation is. If the interface around the chip is not destroyed, then someone could just solder the connections or something like that..

    Worst case,

    1. reball the NAND chip

    2. Place it on a PCB that can read the NAND and read data using custom test software.

But this will need at least two grand US, unless you are in Taiwan/India/China.

  2. Photo booth places at stores like CVS may help. if they still dont recognize the card, then try calling the service number. like the brand of your camera/card? usually on the packaging it has a costumer service number that you can call and see if they can help. also, try going to a place where they fix cameras. they may have advice there. just make sure to try the photobooths first, 'cause whoever you ask, will ask if youve tried everything first. good luck! and thanks for answering my questions, ill check them out.

  3. If your computer won't recognize the card, perhaps try taking it to a camera store or a place where you can develop film. Usually places have those photo center booths where you can stick your memory card in their machine and print out whatever pictures you want. You may have better luck there. While you're using the photo booth, it probably wouldn't hurt to ask a photo tech for any suggestions.

    Good luck!
