The more physio, occupational therapy and speech therapy the better.  Keep it going for as long as you possibly can...it makes all the difference.  The child may not FULLY recover if it was a massive stroke (in other words not a TIA that passes within a few days - fully recovery is possible from this.

    A Lot will depend on how much the brain was starved of blood.  But if you really focus on the above...you will see maximum potential.   Many people give up after 6 months or so...when improvement can and does occur way beyond this.

    If it is your child, I'm so sorry, what a shock to you!

    I would strongly recommend that you video her/him weekly at first then monthly...this really helps you to look back and appreciate the progress as it can be slow.
