I was passing someone on a one lane highway, while I was passing the car in front of me the chp said he clocked me at 98 mph when I was about 1/2 mile away, however did not turn around until he passed me. What do you think happened?

  1. Radar.

  2. Believe me, the CHP wouldn't lie. They dont get money from tickets they write. The tickets they write go to the local county or city of jurisdiction. The officer may have been a chase car and you may have been clocked by a different officer and the "I" was a universal "I", or like it has been said before, he may have clocked you while driving and subtracted speeds. As well as pacing, although it sounds like he was not behind you for too long. Best not to pass vehicles on one lane highways here, dangerous, even if the road allows you to.

  3. Yes.  His radar/laser "knows" how fast your cars are approaching each other and simply subtracts his speed to determine yours.  For example, if your were going 98 and he was coming toward you at 50 then his radar would read 148.

  4. Yes..........

Radars guns do not require the operator to aim exactly (only general direction) at one particular target, and are most effective when traffic is light.

  5. He clocked you at 98 mph.computerised radar guns did this for years. When you were passing,he has to come up on you from behind for safety ,to stop you so he let you go by and turned around , stopped you from behind, slapped a ticket ,which is proper procedure.
