Would it break through the manhole cover and keep falling? Or would the manhole cover stop it, like the ground?

  1. no the cinder block is much more brittle and will brak e at the point of impact

  2. Depends on a whole lot of things, but if you're talking about a typical 8 x 8 x 16 inch cinder block and steel manhole cover like found in the States....

    Not likely!

block will probably bust or bounce. That why they make 'em out of steel. So cars can go over them too!

    bye for now.

  3. The manhole cover ( do we have to call them personhole covers yet ? ) will stop a cinder block.  The cinder block will break apart upon impact.

  4. It can, but as always there are many contributing factors. How thick is the cover? Some cinder blocks weigh different. What are the temperatures of the objects? Given the right conditions it could happen, but to be more specific, No a general cinder block can not break "through" a general manhole cover. They are made thicker now to accommodate heaver loads and are supported on all edges. One would have to collapse to allow a block to "break through".
