A couple of common black ants got inside our home, and im the type of person who doesn't like to kill insect or animals..so i caught them and safely let them go outside in our yard.

I was just curious..are ants capable of surviving on their own..without their colony?

  1. It really depends on the type of ant.  A queen ant can survive by herself for a short period of time due to having enough fat stores to keep her going until she gives birth to worker ants.  However, worker ants (which is probably what you have rescued) will just end up dying unless they can find their way back home.  This is because they typically don't gather food to eat themselves but collect it for the colony as a whole - therefore they won't necessarily eat what they find because they are programmed to take it back to the colony and 'the greater good'.

  2. Good finance question!  I know of an organization that gives up to $1500 to people to help them with their rent or mortgage.  It's available in most US cities, I highly suggest you check it out.
