Can a company demote an employee to a lower paid job without red circling your salary?

Prevously the company did the same to a different job and paid the said people five times their annual differential as a form of compensation.

Are the company allowed to demote to a lower paid job without any form of agreement i.e wages.

If a company changes your terms and conditions they must enter into a period of consultation with those concerned, good practice asks that this is usuially 3 months, not essentially that long though. If your current job is being made redundant and they have found you work at a lower level consultation is a must however the salary is usually ring fenced. if you are being demoted to lack of performance then this must follow a structured approach including traing and minuted meetings.
