Can a company find out my previous work history?

Can companies ( like a bank ) find out my previous work history if I don't reveal it to them? (well know fast food chain)

  1. Its possible of course.

    Private Investigation (with or without your knowledge)

    Job Application (employment history)

    IRS Audit (government function that can be farmed out)

    Credit Check (credit/loan apps, security clearance)

    Criminal Background Check (employment and security clearance)

    Normal Background Check (employment and security clearance)

    These things are all available to private enterprise and can include employment history.  You can reveal it to them, or you can choose not to in certain circumstances.  

    For instance - no employment history or credit check and no car loan - want the loan, sign the authorization.  You don't have to sign, but the choice has consequences.

    A private investigator (a business entity thus company), can get information about you without your authorization in the course of an investigation.


  2. In most states all the former employer can do is verify if you worked for them. Start and end date. they normally aren't allowed to answer anything more. Check with your state unemployment office.
