10 years with a company, countless awards, yet due to a relo they say I have to reapply for a job I already do. I am 50 years old. Could this be an age thing? If I don't try to reapply they told me I would lose my salary. Can a company do this? This is not a union job.

  1. Actually, assuming that every store employee must reapply, they could even terminate you. It's not that unusual for employees to have to reapply, although it's more common when there is a merger or acquisition, rather than a relocation.

If you find that you are being treated differently than younger employees, by all means file a complaint with the EEOC.

But my best guess is that there are other employees (not you) that they want to eliminate during the transition. This is their way of doing so.

  2. Well if thats how the company handles situations like that, then thats just their policy. If you find out others didnt need to re-apply, take that as a hint that you are unwanted there...
