Question:

Can a contact lens get stuck or lost inside/behind the eyeball?

I accidentally slept with a contact lens on overnight. When I woke up, it was in my eye for almost 24 hrs, should have taken it out 12 hrs ago. It was a bit attached to surface of eyes, rinses and applied pressure w/ ball of finger-tip and tried to get it out. I didnt feel anything on my finger. Normally when it's out i can see it stick to finger tip or fall of the table surface etc. My eye's vision definitely shifted back to non-corrected, so i know i'm not wearing any lens at the moment. I seem to have a sand-particle-like foreign object sensation in my eye.

I wonder if my contact lens could have lost behind the eye somehow and folded up and stuck? Is there anywhere for it to go? Can it get far into my eye to my brain and cause damages or will it come out on its own? another possibility could be it felll on the floor after i tried to take it out and just cant find the soft clear transparent contact lens

  1. no there s no where for it to go

  2. No, there is no opening that would allow the contact to go behind the eye. Otherwise when we opened our eyes under water , our head would fill up....lol

The farthest it can go is up under your top lid.

The irritation you feel may be just a result of dyness after having worn them overnight.

If it has folded and got stuck under your lid, just rinse your eye out good with saline, or refreshing drops, and keep your eye looking downward. Apply gentle fingertip  pressure on your lid in a downward motion from the top of the lid to your lashes a few times , it will eventually come down if it is there at all.

Don't rub sideways or in a circular motion.

  3. Its happened to me before, lasted for about 8 hours, the lense just went in when I was in the shower and I thought I lost it in the drainage or something, but later I had this uneasy feeling, made small rubbing motions at the upper eyelid, and the lenses came down, so I pulled them out!

Anyways, Im selling cosmetic/colored lenses for US$15 a pair, 1-year lasting, authentic(certificates available to show), and willing to supply for lower rates as well :) Please take a look~ Its at http://sglenses.blogspot.com
