Can a contact lense be worn if there is a tiny (less than a millimeter) piece missing from the side?

My nail clipped it when i took it out, and I won't have any other contacts until my order comes in a week from now. So is it safe to wear a contact missing a tiny bit off the side of it?

  1. You can put it in and see how it feels.  Your eye will be the best tester and let you know if it can be worn or not.  I've done it before and sometimes the rip is too big and the eye dislikes it, or I'll have to move the contact around in the eye to get a comfortable position.  Eventually, though, the contact will just tear on you and you'll have to put a new one in.  I think mine made it less than a week.  I had no adverse effects from it, though an optometrist may tell you differently (they have a lot of opinions about eye care and wear).

  2. Yes and no.  I know that doesn't sound like a good answer BUT

if the contact lens is chipped in just away it can be warn with no problems.  very unlikely but Ive seen it.  you will know the second you put it in your eye.

also, if you feel as though it is not irritating your eye make sure you are more aware of NOT rubbing or touching.  you are at a higher risk of them scratching you.

  3. I wouldn't. I put my contact in my eye not knowing it was chipped and it burned bad. My eye kept watering up horribly and it was bloodshot.

It wasn't even that big of a piece missing either. But it's better that you don't wear it. Trust me.

  4. You can wear it but it might be uncomfortable.  As long as you are careful and it doesn't rip more or completely you should be okay for  a week.  I've done it before.  Not because I wanted to, but like you I was waiting for a new pair to come in.  Good luck!
