  1. No rules!

Just make sure you choose the type, that unbuttons easily - that comes in handy, if it catches on fire!!

  2. oo

  3. Jason is right and so are the others, all of the kitchen people normally wear them, some choose to wear short sleeve shirts.

Pastry chefs have ones with shorter sleeves so they can manoeuvre batters, yeast dough and other thing more easily, but the jackets are common place now, as for Rachael Ray, she is from another planet as far as I am concerned, way over exposed.

The chefs hat is a different thing, but alot of places have the paper one, some have cloth again it is up to the operation, I have personalized jacket with my name on them I used for special occasions and some have them specially made with fancy embroidering and little collar bits, more show than one they use in the kitchen for the dirty work.

  4. Any one can wear a chefs jacket --------- you can wear one at home.... or out to lunch....  its ok....

  5. of course anyone can wear a chef's jacket.  I get mine from chefworks.com.

  6. Chef is French for "chief" and refers to the head of a kitchen or department in a kitchen.  Many nouns are often mistakenly labeled "chef's" (including cooks themselves) when they should be called cook's by people who don't understand the finer points of culinary history.

Every time you see something labeled "chef" like chef's knife, chef's coat, chef's clogs, chef's hat, mentally change it to cooks, unless of course it is actually a chef, then just say "Hi Chef, how are you doing today?"
