  1. It is okay for law enforcement vehicles.  Not on our personal cars.

Usually K-9 units will have dark tint to help keep the vehicle interior cool for the dogs.  I work for a state agency and my patrol unit is an unmarked car with dark tint.  I personally don't like driving it at night (I'm on night shift) because it screws with my vision.  However, if I roll the windows up no one can see that I'm the Police.

  2. People do and as a civilian, I do not like tint (period) - when I walk at night it worries me what is going on were I can't see.  "IF" I was a cop, I would be very jumpy approaching a questionable car.  Do you know what the fire department would do if you park in front of a hydrant and they had to respond to a fire? They would set up their hoses but bust out your windows and place a coupler right smack in the middle of the car.  Try and turn that into insurance (Ha ha ha!!!) and see what happens to your rates.

  3. If it's a personally owned vehicle, then no.

My personal car has to follow all the same rules as everybody else's.  If it didn't I could get a ticket (just like everyone else) and would get in trouble at work if my bosses found out.

  4. Well, sure, he can. But it's illegal and he can get caught, just like anybody else. Cops are supposed to obey the law like anyone else.
