  1. At the current time, no one person or group of persons could possibly attain the necessary power to take over the government of the US.

For that to happen, they would require the full cooperation of the military and the military has neither the will, nor the numbers necessary to take this country by force.

    Ain't gonna happen.

  2. if obama gets president the military will retake power.

  3. When people have nothing to lose and are willing to die for what they believe in, there can be.  All the guns, atomic and chemical weapons can not stop an uprising.  Of course the people will all die but they were willing to commit suicide anyway.  When the people die, who will all those big guns control?

Yes there can be a coup.  Millions will die but millions will want to die and that will be a pretty sad state of affairs in the U.S.  In my opinion, we're headed that way.  The statistics show that there are more depressed people in the U.S. than in any other developed country.  Are you taking anti depressants yourself?  How suicidal are you?  Anything becoming intolerable about your health care system, educational system, legal system, financial system?

In my opinion, the people are getting pretty darned close to have nothing valuable to live for anyway so they may as well take to the streets.  Wow what a blood bath but I don't think those depressed, hopeless feeling people will really care.  I'm just standing here watching.  It will happen eventually as too many people are feeling depressed in this country.  There's a lot to feel depressed about.  The health care people should be handing out free happy pills instead of viagra.

  4. Lyndon Johnson thought so, after the assassination of JFK. That's why he was sworn in on Air Force One, with Jackie Kennedy beside him, still covered in her husband's brains.

  5. You might want to see the original "Seven Days in May" with Kirk Douglas and Burt Lancaster; consider the timing of that film with the then current (On the heels of the JFK assassination) events.  This also served to help Lydon Baines Johnson 1964 election over Senator Barry Goldwater (R) who was also a Major General in the USAF Reserve and considered a hawk on war.

  6. extreme dislike of the president or of the entire ruling party/ body. A total distrust of the beaurocratic side of the government, while still respecting the military. It may also be done on the pretext of national security, some strong outside threat or interior threat and a feeling that the government is not helping but making the situation worse. If Bush tried to take a third term, declaring a national emergency and siphoning funds of with the cooperation of congress.

The military will take power with the promise of a modern style election to be held at some later date once order has been restored. many won't like it but as it stands many people don't like many things, even those who try to do something about them are not often effective.

  7. anything is possible.  However when ever there is a coup there is wide spread civil unrest, very bad economic conditions etc.  I really don't see this happening in the US in our current state.

  8. It did. All it took was a few well-connected friends involved in the electoral process and the judiciary.
