Can a cow ant bite? and if it can does it hurt?

They are very disturbing little insects and I don't want to be bitten by the little devils.

There also know as red velvet ants

  3. Because they look like large furry ants, velvet wasps have a number of common names.  But they are wasps and as such they sting.

    As you can see they are variable in their appearance with the females wingless and the males winged.  There sting is reportedly much worse than most wasp stings.  The are predacious on other wasp larvae as well as beetle larvae which they find under the ground.
