Can a credit union garnish your wages if your overdrawn by a large ammount and you dont pay them?

  1. to get a garnishment u have to go to court if they did that u would b notified


  2. Only if they sue you, win, and get a judgement against you.

    It is unlikely they will cover any checks that would result in a "large overdraft".

Only the IRS can garnish wages without a court order.  To get a court order, they have to sue and win.  What the credit union CAN do, is seize ANY funds on deposit with them in your name.  That means if you have more than one account with them, they can cover an overdraft in one by taking the others.  You probably didn't read that in the terms you agreed to when you opened the accounts, but it has been in the terms of EVERY financial account for decades.

  5. YEs they can. I believe it is in the agreement you signed when you opened the account.
