We're planning a Royal Carribean cruise in Jan. and want to pay as much up front as possible. I don't use credit cards but my ATM debit card is also VISA, will that do? How much do you think it will add up to on a 4 night crusie?

  1. Yes, debit cards are perfectly fine.  You can actually do the card authorization online before you go, which will save you time at the pier.  Once you buy the tickets they'll give you the log-in details to do online check-in.

The total cost really depends on you and what you like to do.  The only "mandatory" cost is about $10 per person, per day for gratuities.  You can opt to hand out tips in cash, but most people go with the automatic option of putting it on your cabin account.  The other potential costs to consider are:

    - Bar.  Assume beers are about $4, cocktails $8-$10

    - Spa. Typical land prices for a "fancy" spa

    - Shopping

    - Casino

There's an article that goes into more detail about cruise costs here:

    Have a great time!

  2. I didn't have a credit card. All I had was my atm debit card too which was visa and they gave me no problem at all!
