Can a degree/major in Art History get me into a fashion career?

I'd want to pursue a career in Art Direction, or Fashion styling!

  1. Assuming your planning on being a fashion designer...an Art History degree won't help that much more than a Liberal Arts Degree would. If possible I would try to do something specific in Design or Illustration, or even better, Fashion Design.

    Those majors will require a substantial amount of Art History as well, but they'll also teach you technical skills. Which, depending on your desired job, will be invaluable.

Why not?  Most occupations/careers are on-the-job learning experiences anyway.  A job in the fashion industry most likely depends on knowing someone, being in the right place at the right time, or luck, anyway.  Take that degree and get yourself an entry level job in the industry you desire . . . and then begin the hard and rewarding work of building the career you want!
