Can a disabled person be forced to stay in their lease if the housing no longer meets their needs?

Individual residing in Maryland becomes disabled in a garden style apartment. The individual can no longer maneuver stairs. Can the landlord make the individual responsible for the remainder of the lease if the individual desires to seek housing that meets their needs?

  1. Probably... although that landlord would be a real A Clown.

    I don't think that the Americans with Disabilities Act allows for contract nullification.


  2. Look in the lease. Most of them will contain a clause on what the penalties are for breaking the lease.

  3. They can make you stay in the lease if they can provide ramps and make  apartment ADA OK to meet your needs. Can they provide ramps and convert the apartment into ramps so that you can still use it?
