  1. Sure, I think so.  It could even be an advantage....the adult with dyslexia could be very understanding of the child's struggles because he/she had many of the same ones.

  2. A dyslexic adult may be the best person to teach a dyslexic child.  Who better to know how that child learns.  I think its a great idea.

  3. yes. I had a teacher who was dyslexic, and she was one of the best I had.

  4. well- dyslexia isn't mild, it's a severe reading difficulty.  But I've seen parents with learning problems be able to teach their children to a point.  The issue can be that there are many reasons a person doesn't read well, and it can be tough to find the right way to teach someone.  Every dyslexic doesn't have the same problem.  For example, some peole have trouble reading because their eyes don't coordiante well.  Some don't read well because they have trouble remember what sounds go with which letters.  Others have a language based disability which means words themselves are confusing, whether they are written or spoken.   I say all that to say be sure to get the right guidance to work with your child, or you'll both be frustrated.

  5. It's possible. It would depend on the severity of each case. If each has mild dislexia, then it would most likely work very well, since the adult would have grown up learning how to deal with dislexia, and therefore understand the child and be able to work with them.

I think it would be able to work.

  6. A dyslexic adult who has developed strategies for dealing with his/her problem would probably be okay, but it is not the best case scenario. Many learning disabled people lack the patience and interpersonal skills necessary to the task.

You mentioned the mother may be borderline - in intelligence? - or have cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is loss of motor skills due to some type of brain injury to the cerebrum before birth and would not impact ability to teach. But borderline intelligence is not a good scenario for teaching reading.
