Is a financial agreement absolutely necessary in the event of a divorce, i.e if both parties agree that no financial agreement is needed (no property or other assets involved) can a divorce still go ahead? There are no joint debts or joint bank accounts.

  1. Yes I would say so as there's no dispute over assets or child maintenance.

  2. It's whatever you decide upon, that's the issue, you just need to give a reason for the divorce, but as regards the financial aspect, sometimes at this time feelings run high, and all you want is 'out' of the relationship without thinking of the future consequences of the actions you're taking now.

Talk to a solicitor, there may be items that you have purchased or a family member bought you as a gift, that you may decide you wish to keep, but once that paper has been signed to dis-associate yourself from claiming any property assets or financial agreements or maybe shared insurance policies etc, it may something that you regret at a later time.
