Can a doctor distinguish between leftover follicles and new ones?

I have a good size follicle and a medium one and I am only on day 10, I usually ovulate day 17 so I thought this was weird. Last month my cycle was 38 days long instead of the usual 31 day cycle,

  1. When you go in for your baseline ultrasound, the Dr. looks for cysts. Those are leftover follicles. If the cysts are producing high levels of hormones, they will not proceed with giving you clomid or FSH for that cycle, and you will have to wait until the cyst goes away to resume treatment. Cysts will hog all of the medications and prevent other follicles from developing.
