Can a doctor lose his license to practice medicine if he seeks help for depression and suicidal thoughts?

  1. Didn't you post something similar to this a while ago? This one does make more sense though.  I do not believe he can get his license taken away for that.  It has nothing to do with his job.


  2. If that doctor is not capable of doing their job properly no longer, then indeed, the medical board can take the license to practice

  3. It was tried many years ago in a few states. In the US the local sate is the licensing authority. It failed each time and it does not happen anymore. They would much rather have a M.D. get treatment for a problem then hide the problem and mistreat patients.  

  4. Not likely, but it depends on the state's laws governing medicine.  Doctors are people too and when they are seen as patients by other doctors are protected by confidentiality.

  5. No. He would have to breech specific rules of conduct or professionalism to be brought up for a license review
