Can a doctor of osteopath...?

Can someone who went thru Doctor of Osteopathy take the USMLE Step 1 and become an MD? I thought I read somewhere it did but maybe I am mistaken. Please give me website. How does it all work? Thank you!

  1. Yes and No. Yes in the rare instance that an MD school takes a transfer from a DO school. med schools of any kind rarely accept transfers. Other than that, you do NOT become an MD by taking the USMLE. Often you don't even have to take the USMLE to get into a MD residency. The MD is the degree, which is granted by the institution you are attending. If you are at an osteopathic school, you get a DO degree.
