Can a doctors pregnancy be wrong? Ever?

I was in the doctor's office for abdominal pain on Aug. 7th and they tested me and it was negative. I had to get a ct scan that day and then an ultrasound that day as well and it turned out I have a rather large ovarian cyst. I have another appt. on the 21st to see if I need to get it removed. Well I am now a tad over a week late. What are the chancing I am pregnant? Could the cyst be throwing my period off? I don't have period symptoms. Should I retest or wait until I go to the OBGYN on thursday?

I know, I know if I really want to know take another test but what are the chances that this cyst threw off my entire cycle or that I might be pregnant?

  1. an ultrasound won't show anything tip between 5 and 6 weeks, so that's 1 to 2 weeks after a missed period.  It's also. Best to test for pregnancy a week after missed period as there are different types of hcg such as hhcg which is produced during early pregnancy but not tested for on most tests. I'm not sure whether a cyst can delay a period but I would certainly say it's too early to rule out pregnancy.

  2. If you had a blood test, ct scan and ultrasound, the odds of the doctor being wrong are miniscule. That's three tests indicating the same thing.

Today's Tuesday. Unless you're in pain, which you're not, I'd wait. You've already gotten a diagnosis, nothing is life-threatening, and you're going to see the doctor in two days.

Besides... you can always call the doctor with your questions.
