My puppy has parvo. He was improving but today the vet told me that is worse than yesterday (not wanting to lift his head, etc). Yesterday he would lift his head a little to look at you. He had 2 vomits and 1 diarrhea yesterday and today they said that he has had both (more vomiting than diarrhea but they didn't tell me an exact number nor did I remember at the time to ask). Is parvo an up and down illness or could he be taking a turn for the worse? Any advice is appreciated.

  1. i know how you feel, right now my puppy is at the hospital with parvo, she had vomited alot and diarrhea, they told me not to worry about the diarrhea, it is the vomiting, she is on ivs now and they are trying another anibotics for her, they said it might help her more to fight this off, the vet also told me if the white cell count drops anymore, then we have to make a choice too. i just called there and they told me that a puppy had a worse case then mine and it just went home today, so just keep your head up, i know i am.

  2. my 14 month old puppy showed signs of parvo on Fri, 8th Aug 08, vomitting and had violent diarrhoea... we sent him in to be hospitalised immediately and he looked like he got better that he was even taken of the regular drip by tues, 12th Aug & the vet said he could leave within the next 2 days..

However he crashed the next day (Wed) & they found out that his marrow was being attacked & by then he was just lying there hardly moving and it was heartbreaking.

We got him put on a plasma transfusion drip, started on a once a day interflureon jabs for 3 days.. and was back on the drip after the plasma tooc because he wasnt eating once again.

by Sunday, 17th Aug he was almost back to his usual rowdy self.  and he got well enough to be discharged on the 19th evening, 12 days after he was admitted.

That was about US$3000 later. but i would say totally worth it to do everything we could to get him well again even tho we cant really afford that money.

all these when we only got the puppy on the 3rd Aug night and barely had him for a week and it struck. u just have to be very vigilant to make sure the vetrinary staff are very alert and they give him the best care possible... even if its to a point of making such a fuss on things so that they hate you to the core but it keeps them on their toes to be vigilant about your pup.

Hope these little info helps and keeps you encouraged.

  3. I had a puppy that had parvo. I first noticed it and it wasn't very bad then it got worse then better again. I finally took him to the vet and he said it was the worst case he had ever seen. He told me that he didn't expect him to live through the night. But the next day the vet called and said he was ready to come home. He lived for 9 years and I lost him last christmas.  I hope he gets better soon! I know it can be stressful.

  4. I would suggest putting him to sleep. My dog had parvo, it suffered bad. We thought she was getting better, then she let out a huge whelp and died. I know its sad, but its what i wish i had of done. We tried to find every available option to treat it. And after the treatments, she still died. Puppies cant get rid of parvo, though it rarely even hinders older dogs. That dog was the best :(

Best wishes for your decision. I am sorry you are faced with this tough decision.

  5. THIS IS SO SAD. JUST HOPEFULLY THE VETS CAN HELP HIM OUT ALL YOU CAN DO IS WAIT AND DO WHGAT THEY SASY TO IMPROVE HIS HEALTH. BEST OF WISHES. P.S PARVO IS SERIOUSE AND CAN TAKE A TURN FOR THE WORSTE
