Can a dollar survive stomach acids?

My dog ate 2, $100 dollar bills this morning. Does anyone know if they will survive his stomach acid or if I should give up on "sifting through the evidence" so to speak.

  1. They will survive, if they haven't been chewed up, but even if they were chewed up, the pieces would be worth recovering and saving because the government has a special division that goes to great lengths to recognize apparently destroyed money.  If money was printed on paper, there probably wouldn't be anything left, but money is printed on linen, the same stuff they wrapped mummies in because it wouldn't decompose.

When you recover what's left of the bills, clean them as best you can, disinfect them or the pieces in a solution of 2 drops of bleach in a quart of water, and leave them out to dry.  Then take them to your bank, and they will handle it from there.

  2. hahahaha "sifting through the evidence" but i doubt you would find the entire bill so i would give up

  3. LMAO! Sorry...but your question reminds me of Cheech And Chong looking for their pot...lol

I think your dog's stomach may digest the bills  :O(

  4. i don't believe so. because it depends on the material the bill is made of. there are certain acids to break down certain thing in the stomach. so I'm guessing that it wont come out of your end an entire bill.

  5. The paper itself might, since it's actually a fabric and IIRC an acid wash is part of the creation process. Whether enough of the ink would survive to be able to read the serial numbers might be another story.
