Can a double rowing shell be converted into a pair?

I'm currently in the market for a used rowing pair, but I only seem to be able to find doubles or singles for sculling. I need to know if it would be possible to buy sweeping riggers and then convert it myself. Thanks ahead of time!

  1. Absolutely, yes, they are the same hull.  Usually, doubles come with a set of pair riggers.  Ask the seller if they have them.  If not, call the boat manufacturer first before you buy the boat to see if they are obtainable- riggers are built to the particular hull design, so riggers from another boat would take expert retrofit from a qualified rigger- or else the height, spread, and pitch could be pretty far off.

  2. Yes it can. We converted our Vespoli 33 from a double into a pair recently. The only problem is if you're using Vespoli stuff your long metal washer-things are too long for the outside part of the rigger.
