Question:

Can a driver "holdout" on his contract?

Like how NFL players can opt to not go to training camp, or not play in the regular season. Could a driver decide not to race for a better contract? Considering it would probably not only upset the management, but I'm sure the sponsors wouldn't be too happy.

In theory could a driver do it?

  1. To many teams are looking for sponsorship. If a driver tries to hold out, if it was me, I'd contact another team and driver.

  2. Yes, they can, but they also can be replaced for breaking his contract, and would end up without the pay out on the end of the contract,.

yes, they can, but more than likely would be given their walking papers at the same time.....

  3. In therory  yes.Reality no.

With the number of drivers with experiance in the Nationwide,Craftsman Truck, even the various other circuts(ARCA,HOOTERS CUP........) there is a driver who could step in and fill the seat pretty fast.

So the drive that would hold out would only cut his own throat.

  4. Sure, but it would probably prove very costly to the driver. There are millions of dollars riding on a driver fulfilling his contract both on the track and through sponsor obligations, and I don't think many owners would take that lightly.

  5. Yes they can, but it would not be a wise choice. Unlike an NFL or MLB , etc , player holding out of training camp, a driver is the only person on the field (or track). A sports team has many backup players, practice squad that can fill in for said holdout. For a racer to hold out, we would probably lose his ride becuase the car owner will just have him replaced.
