  1. Possibly.  There's a site on the internet http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers which has helped in the past for me.  It's not bad, it will let you know various formats and media that can be played on a particular model of DVD player.


  2. High end DVD players usually don't play VCD (MPEG-1) videos, but they may play S-VCDs (MPEG-2). Or they may play commercially produced VCDs but not ones you make on your computer.

    As a general rule, THE CHEAPER the DVD player, the more stuff it plays. Go figure. It is usually marked on the outside the box if it plays VCDs.

    The only downside to cheap DVD players is that they have a shorter life.

  3. I believe so. My sony dvd player can play the vcd format, however, dvd players like a Playstation 2 will not recognize the format.
