Can a dvd recorder record programmes on a normal tv or just record dvds??

  1. In America most stand alone DVD recorders have their own tuner to record or rely on the video and audio inputs to supply the programming to record from the cable, satellite or hdtv converter box.

    But since you spell programmes as such you most likely reside in the UK where recorders probably record via the SCART input and may get their signal from the TV's tuner via the SCART.  My experience with SCARTs dates back to 1979 so I would defer to someone who has more recent experience with SCARTs.

    But in general a stand alone DVD recorder most likely works like a VCR except when tuning with its own tuner it tends to allow one to schedule programs to record like a TiVo (at least in America).
