Can a faulty Catalytic Converter give me carbon monoxide poisoning?

I have had a severe headache and dizziness for over a week, I went to the ER and they said it was a sinus infection, yet I have no conjestion etc. My headache is also not around my eyes but rather the top of my top and temples......I have been taking antibiotics (for a sinus infection which I don't think I have) and have no improvement. I have a 2 hour commute to work and have been told I need to replace my cataltic converter, but have been putting it off because it's so expensive...but now I'm wondering if that is what is making me sick.

  1. it might be...it can make the inside air of your car smell like bad farts, too; very sulphuric!  pee-you!

  2. yea

  3. You have an exhaust leak somewhere under the vehicle which is getting into the vehicle either through the windows, the fresh air vents or even through the truck area.

  4. No. A faulty exhaust pipe or a an exhaust manifold (gasket) leak under your hood could possible cause fumes to be sucked into the passenger compartment. CO is odorless and tasteless and can kill you very quickly (as you know, a severe headache is one sympton). Also, your skin will usually flush bright red.

WHO told you to replace your catalytic converter?

You'd better get your home heating system checked and install a CO detector in your room. I would also take a CO detector and place it in your car and then drive to work and see if you get any alarms. THEY are very cheap and easy to use.

You might be getting CO poisoning, but not from your CC. The CC is well past the muffler on your car's exhaust system. A CLOGGED CC can cause the engine to run bad, but again, you'd know that because of other engine issues. At highway speeds, your engine exhaust will exit to the rear of your car. GET a CO detector at Home Depot and test your car ASAP. Then when it does not alarm for CO in your car, tell whoever told you to replace the CC to go pee up a rope.

  5. check ur blood for carbon mon oxide......

  6. no,you cannot get carbon monoxide poisining from a faulty cataltic converter.

  7. could be if your getting Carbon Monoxide into the cabin of your car... The hospital could have tested you for eleated levels of this if it were known or suspected... My advice would be to drive with the windows down a bit until this is resolved...your symptoms appear classic to me, for CM poisoning

  8. Maybe.  Symptoms of moderate CO poisoning include headaches and dizziness.

  9. ya get it fixed

  10. my husband works in auto parts and he says yes you can.  You need to get that fixed
