Can a felon legally go to a shooting range?

Question

Does anyone know if a felon can go rent a gun and fire it at a shooting range? I know felons can't own a gun, but what about firing one in a safe place?

Actually, you can own it, but you cannot legally possess it.  No licensed dealer can sell a gun to you, but you can inherit or by one from a private party.  You can own it and have it stored somewhere, but if you possess the gun you own, or the gun you rent, or borrow or steal or find, you committ another felony.

No.

The federal law prohibits a felon from owning "or possessing" a firearm. A felon can't even have a post in the military that involves carrying a gun.
