Can a female dog that has had a repaired umbilical hernia still have puppies?

Is this harmful to the puppies or the female who gives birth?

  1. that would be a good question to ask you vet,,,,they would be the best ones to really ask,,,,,,


  2. Not recommended. I'm surprised the vet that did the repair didn't recommend spaying her.

  3. Yes it is harmful and it can be passed on to her pups.As a pet store dog she may have more genetic problems she can pass on to the pups too

  4. Was it a true hernia or a delayed closure? If the first then do not breed her as it is highly inheritable. Delayed closures are not. Either way before breeding you need to find yourself a breeder mentor before you even attempt breeding. If you don't know which it was/is then don't breed this *****

  5. It would be risky. Unless the dog is an important part of a planned breeding program, I don't think I would take the risk.

  6. She can still have young as long as she was not spayed. The umbilicus is the navel. If her uterus is still intact, the navel has nothing to do with fertility.
