  1. yes.  but there are some regulations

  2. yes - - but, in many places rentals are actually a better option - - if you come to the point of wanting your money out, re-sales can be difficult in many areas - - know what you are investing in and how quickly and costly it will be to get out - - in many areas they are way way overbuilt - and Thai prefer to buy new units as opposed to the dreaded 2nd hand.. there is no substitute for knowledge BEFORE you invest..

  3. Yes you can. But with restrictions: you can only buy condominiums, and only if 51% of the owners are Thai. Buying a free standing house with a garden is officially not allowed. As foreigners are not allowed to buy land

But a common loophole is to build a number of bungalows/houses on a mutual foundation, cover the foundation with a nice garden and call it a horizontal condominium. The effect is the same as a free standing house with a garden.

Expect to shell out some money for that. Developers use this loophole to build expensive beach properties.

There are several other loopholes too: for example, you might lease the land for 33 years with a guaranteed extension. But talk with a reputable real estate agent about that.

  4. yes you can buy a condo, but you cant buy a house which has its own land as foreigners are not permitted to own land in thailand. condos in a gated community are ok as all the land is shared and not owned individually

  5. You can buy a condo, but there are some regulations that you have to adhere to.  You don't have to be married to own a condo but there are lots of restrictions.

Thai Visa Forum has questions on this subject pretty often.

If you have never been to Thailand before visit first before putting any money down!  Get a good lawyer!

    Good luck.
